Setting Up a Development Environment

Duration: 10 mins

You need a compiler (gcc, clang, MSVC) and a text editor/IDE (VS Code, CLion, Vim). The typical tool‑chain is:

  1. Pre‑processor – expands macros.
  2. Compiler – translates source to assembly.
  3. Assembler – turns assembly into object files.
  4. Linker – creates the final executable.

Linux/macOS ships with gcc/clang. Windows users can install MSYS2, MinGW, or WSL.
